Hunting dinosaurs with lasers

  • Ducky

Some games have distinct traits, some platforms you like to play on have distinct traits, like consoles in their early days loved to make you run in circles collecting the stuff the developers hid from you. People loved the concept so much they tried to implement it to every genre possible and, by some weird coincidence, the classic console shooter was born – Turok The Dinosaur Hunter. Game was troubled with various design choices mixed in together but is still fondly remembered. Let’s dissect it now. Manipulations and Fairy tales

  • Ducky

Some episodes just write themselves. That’s how close the themes I quack about are to me. And sometimes the theme is just wrong. And I can’t have enough expertise in it to make it work. What should I do? Switch to a whole different episode and make a better theme, by praising yet another little game, that is based on the premise of your regular fairy tale. And there you have it – the episode, that explains itself. This Episode became possible thanks to beautiful patron: Heather Welch Have fun, have a good time, come around to say hi. In Imperial Skyrim challenge has to overcome you

  • Ducky

Do you really think, that the story and the characters are the only things that make a good game good? Of course you thought, that there is more to that. And today I will argue, that it’s a challenge. And I took Skyrim as the game, that pretends to have one, but fails to deliver. There are many more games that has no challenges for the players whatsoever as well as there are game, who did it right, but the Skyrim is popular and I didn’t feel like talking about something obscure tonight. Talk to your players in every way possible.

  • Ducky

How often did you play Morrowind and thought to yourself: “wow! this game is perfect! I would never change anything in it!” Probably it was not very often for the game sometimes having a bad glitch or a weird design flaw. Though it’s legendary for being the best Bethesda could ever produce, it’s not without flaws. And in this episode we’re about to quack with ourselves about the imperfections of the great game and the feedback provided to players. Tell your story with fists

  • Ducky

Sometimes you tell your story with carefully structured narrative, events and with interactions between protagonist and NPC. Sometimes – with audiologs and emails. But hat if you start to tell the story with enemies, difficulty, consumables and loot? Is it even possible? Sure thing! Hop it to this episode to know how. It’s all your fault! Or is it?

  • Ducky

Not really a very nice thing to see, right? Yeah. It’s not. And making a game that goes out of its way to antagonize players is not a good thing either. Or is it? It appears, that players will consume everything if it’s pretty. because Mutant Year Zero has a lot of positive reviews on Steam apart from having a lot of flaws. But we’re here to unapologetically dissect this game. Grab your popcorn, folks! Artsy game, that doesn’t suck

  • Ducky

Can you really make this game, that will be so artsy, that game journalists would give it a solid 10/10, but the regular players, who aren’t elevated enough will forget about it in minutes? I guess you can, but what’s the point? You can make the game, that is artsy AND you can have a nice and solid gameplay there. Also, did I hear the cutting edge VGA graphical and MIDI performance? No? We’ll add those anyway. Enjoy your stay at the age of guilds! Enjoy the Loom. In Faerie land King challenges you

  • Ducky

There is a game called The order of the Thorne – King’s Challenge, that tried to be a Sierra point and click adventures’ spiritual successor and at the same time – the fairy tale with the fairy tale logic and story. Did it go well together? Not really. But that’s not the question you should ask in Duck in Games. Can we gain something from it? Yes, absolutely yes. Let’s see what’s in there for us, brave explorers of the wilds! This Episode became possible thanks to beautiful patrons: Heather Welch Mat Demaz Have fun, have a good time, come around to say hi. I need a hero! Or do I?

  • Ducky

This time we dive quite deep into the wonderful world of Hero shooters. Like Overwatch. Or even better – Quake Champions. The titan when it was announced appeared to have clay feet and started to crumble right from the beginning. While Overwatch stands and dominates the market. What happened to Quake? Why is it on life support before Quake 1 multiplayer? We have to bring it on and learn something from the game design of Quake Champions.
